The main beach in Javea is the “Arenal” which is set in a small bay within Javea bay. There are a couple of volleyball courts, palm trees, and numerous shops, bars, and restaurants.
When evening falls the late bars and nightclubs begin to open, along with Javea’s famous craft stalls. The stalls attract people from all around the Northern Costa Blanca. Many of the items for sale are hand-made and not available in any of the local gift shops including, jewellery, clothing, ornaments, and accessories. Some of the stalls offer services such as hair-styling and personal caricatures.
For holiday makers that want to see what the real Spain is like, and not the Spain from the holiday brochures, a trip to the Old Town or “Pueblo” is a good idea. The old church and indoor market stand next to each other and are worth a visit, as well as exploring the narrow streets that crisscross the town. Javea’s old town is also where the weekly market is held where you are sure to pick up a bargain or two.
On the other side of Cumbre del Sol is Moraira, one of the most exclusive towns on the Costa Blanca . This is the place to go to if you want a quiet beach holiday without the crowds associated with some of the Costa Blanca's larger resorts. It has a family beach with water-sports, and a park just behind it, directly next to the town and the castle. It also boasts it’s very own secluded cove called “El Portet” which can only be reached by going through Moraira.
There is only one time of the year that Moraira ever becomes noisy, which is the famous annual Moors and Christians fiesta. The celebration lasts for about a week and includes a parade by the local people dressed in spectacular costumes depicting the conflict between the Moors and Christians in Spain. In recent years the event has culminated with the “Moraira Music Festival” which is an open-air concert usually using the flood-lit castle as a backdrop. The performers are often taken from local children as well as professional singers and musicians.
Many of these entertainers can be seen in various bars around Moraira and are popular with both locals and holiday makers. Most of the music bars are grouped together in an area called The Paichi Centre. There is usually a choice of different types of music as well as big screen sports and pub quizzes on offer.
Both of these very different resorts offer a great deal to the holiday-maker no matter what type of beach holiday you enjoy.
